Senate Passes Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Bill You will recall the motion moved by Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, during Senate Plenary on 15 November 2016 on the treatment of critical condition persons and gunshot victims. Today, 11 July 2017, the Senate passed the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Bill. The Bill, which was sent for Legislative Concurrence, seeks to establish a law that ensures that victims of gunshot wounds receive necessary treatment from medical workers and assistance from security agencies. Sunmonu Football Scholarship

Sunmonu Football Scholarship: Sen. Sunmonu was visited by Usman Adelodun and his parents. Usman was the MVP of a football competition facilitated by the former Oyo State Speaker about four years ago. He used to play at Fola Tyre. Usman was the beneficiary of the Monsurat Sunmonu Football Scholarship at the Lead City University Football Academy for U-15 boys. The Academy is under the coordination of Former National Super Eagles FIFA Coach, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde. For the past four years he has continued to be sponsored by the Oyo Central Senator towards achieving his dream of being a professional footballer.

Sunmonu Commissions Classroom Blocks at Alma Mater On 2 July 2017, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, along with other members of the 1973/77 set, commissioned 3 blocks of classrooms at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo. The Oyo Central Senator contributed towards the classrooms as part of her desire to ensure students are able to access some of the best educational facilities.

Oyo Central Petition Laid Before Senate

Oyo Central Petition Laid Before Senate Senator Monsurat Sunmonu has laid another petition concerning the citizens she represents before the Senate. Rising under Rule 41 of the Senate Standing Rules, the Senator representing Oyo Central laid a petition on behalf of 28 members of staff of the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) management over annual emoluments. The Senator urged the Senate to look into the matter. It will be recalled that Senator Sunmonu has previously laid a petition on behalf of a constituent before the Senate. The petition was with reference to Pa Solomon Ojo of Oluyole LG over non-payment of entitlements for over 28 years following retirement from the Nigeria Police. Pursuant to Sunmonu and the Senate's intervention, Pa Solomon was subsequently paid all his emoluments. As at 9th June 2017, the 8th Senate had dealt with and cleared 72 public petitions of which at least one was laid by Sen. Sunmonu.

Sunmonu's Bill to Establish College of Information and Technology in Oyo State Passes First Reading On 5 July 2017, a Bill sponsored by Senator Monsurat Sunmonu to establish a "College of Information and Technology in Oyo State" passed first reading in the Senate. The Bill seeks to establish an institution expected to be located in Oyo State. The proposed "College of Information and Technology" is designed to ensure equity and access to Specialised Information and Communication Technology at tertiary level. Under Sunmonu's Bill, the College is intended to be a conventional College, with limited and focused faculties and programmes specialising in ICT.
