In furtherance of her commitment to ensure some of the best educational opportunities to her constituents, the Senator representing Oyo Central has secured yet another international scholarship opportunity.

The scholarship on offer is:
* 1 or 2 year Masters programme
* 3 year Doctoral programme

The scholarship is in the following fields:
* Public Administration
* Economics
* Law
* Engineering

The scholarship covers:
* Tuition fees
* One off resettlement fee
* Accommodation
* Monthly stipend as upkeep
* Medical insurance
* Flight tickets to and from country of scholarship

NOTE: the successful candidate shall be required to relocate to the country of the programme for the duration of the programme but will be offered one flight back to Nigeria each academic year.

You will recall that currently there is a student from Oyo West LG in Oyo Central who benefited from the last round of international scholarship facilitated by Sen. Sunmonu. He is studying a Masters in Economics at the Wuhan University in China. He began his 2 year programme in 2016 and is due to complete in 2018.

You will also recall that Sen. Sunmonu offered a local scholarship to a student from Afijio LG whose complete tuition fees were covered until he completes Secondary School.

Sen. Sunmonu continues to encourage excellence in the education sector, knowing that encouraging success is key to developing a better Nigeria.

Senator Monsurat Sunmonu decries deplorable roads in Oyo Central District

The senator representing Oyo Central in the National Assembly, Monsurat Sunmonu, has decried the number of deplorable roads in her constituency. Sunmonu, who spoke yesterday when a delegation of her constituents visited her in Abuja, noted that most of the roads in the constituency have become death traps. The former Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker listed Oyo-Ogbomoso Road (under construction), Ibadan-Oyo and Oyo-Iseyin roads as the worst affected. The lawmaker, who displayed photographs of accident vehicles on the roads, said it was disheartening that accidents had become regular on the roads Sunmonu, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, noted that though she had raised the matter on the floor of the Senate, she would lead the delegation to take up the matter with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), to seek quick fix of the roads. Monsurat Sunmonu sponsored the National Association of Oyo Students (NAOS) '5th Annual Oba Adeyemi Mathematics Competition' for the secondary school students across the four (4) local governments in Oyo town. The competition was held at Centenary Hall Federal School of Surveying, Oyo and the programme was attended by various eminent personalities. SUNMONU TAKES OYO CENTRAL LEADERS TO VISIT POWER, WORKS & HOUSING MINISTRY In a rare feat for a political office holder, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, took political leaders to visit the Minister of State for Power, Works & Housing, Hon. Mustapha Baba Shehuri on 5 October 2017. The agenda of the 5 October meeting attended by the leaders was also the state of infrastructure within the Oyo Central. Sunmonu Commissions Classroom Blocks at Alma Mater On 2 July 2017, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, along with other members of the 1973/77 set, commissioned 3 blocks of classrooms at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo. The Oyo Central Senator contributed towards the classrooms as part of her desire to ensure students are able to access some of the best educational facilities.

Oyo Central Petition Laid Before Senate

Oyo Central Petition Laid Before Senate Senator Monsurat Sunmonu has laid another petition concerning the citizens she represents before the Senate. Rising under Rule 41 of the Senate Standing Rules, the Senator representing Oyo Central laid a petition on behalf of 28 members of staff of the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) management over annual emoluments. The Senator urged the Senate to look into the matter. It will be recalled that Senator Sunmonu has previously laid a petition on behalf of a constituent before the Senate. The petition was with reference to Pa Solomon Ojo of Oluyole LG over non-payment of entitlements for over 28 years following retirement from the Nigeria Police. Pursuant to Sunmonu and the Senate's intervention, Pa Solomon was subsequently paid all his emoluments. As at 9th June 2017, the 8th Senate had dealt with and cleared 72 public petitions of which at least one was laid by Sen. Sunmonu.
